Work on CPEC energy projects underway on fast track

Work on the energy projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is underway on a fast track and additional 10,400 MW will be added to the national grid. The 2nd unit of the power plant at Port Qasim will be inaugurated in April and will add 660 MW to the system. The project has been completed in record time of 30 months and super technology was used to make it environment friendly.

ISLAMABAD: Physical work on all energy related projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) continued on fast track adding that it will add over 10,400 MW to the national grid system.

Official sources told APP here that 2nd unit of 1320 MW Port Qasim would shortly start supplying electricity to the national grid system. They said first unit of the Port Qasim Power Plant had already contributing 660 MW electricity to the system.

Sahiwal Coal Power Plant and Port Qaism Coal Power Plant were completed under early harvest CPEC energy program. Regarding, Port Qaism project, the sources said that it has been completed in record time of 30 months and super technology was used to make it environment friendly.

Around 3500 locals including technical and non-technical workers were hired to complete the project. They said local technical and mechanical engineers were sent to China for taking proper training.

They said work has also been kicked off on hydropower projects under 2nd phase of CPEC. Sukki Kanari and Karot hydropower projects were part of 2nd phase, they said. They said the projects would help meet energy demand of the future.
