CPEC provides the necessary stimulus to boost the industrial processes in Pakistan with investments in energy and transportation infrastructure. In 2016, the GDP growth rate was noted as 4.7%, the highest in 8 years and reached figures of 5.28% in 2017 and is expected to rise up to 5.8% in 2018/19.

The pro-growth policies have help reduce the fiscal deficit to 4.6% in 2016 compared to 8.2% in 2013.

According to Asad Umar, (Senior Leader and Policy Head, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), CPEC is creating an enabling environment for potential economic benefit to Pakistan in the long run but for that to happen it is for utmost significance that the government focuses on the implementation and creation of trading opportunities. Currently Gwadar is the only location benefiting from the transportation infrastructure being created. He also emphasized on how special economic zones are a step forward in reviving the economy.
